Step Into the Ring

Like lava my blood surges
Bringing color to once pale cheeks
As my bones crack and pop with excitement
And my muscles shake with anticipation.

I take one step closer and my body feels your trigger;
Right jab to the right side.
But before you can deliver the blow
I’m hitting you with a left-fisted uppercut.

You fall back but recover quick
Sending another wild punch my way.
“Duck” my conscious says, and my mind obeys.
Your punch flies over my head,
Spinning you around like a rag doll.

Now, I’ve got you mad.
Your face turns bright red as you run straight for me
Smashing your head into my stomach, pressing me backwards.
Meanwhile, your arms wrap around my waist like anacondas to prey
Lifting my small body above your head and lurching me to the floor.

I gasp profoundly, bewildered yet impressed by your move.
But while you are planning your next,
I’m turning you over, positioning for a ground and pound.
This was something you did not expect,
I’ve caught you by surprise and now you’re mine for the taking.

I cock back my fist as far as I can
Channeling every bit of anger, distress, sadness...
And I fire.
My fist comes at you like a canon
And your face turns white,
Just before everything goes black.
