A Smile... Or A Mask

A smile
Convincing, yet deceiving
An object of lure
The beauty of one’s smile
Leaves you questioning
Is it real?
Are the muscles of the face contracting out if joy?
Or is a deepening pain?
Behind every smile is a story
A story you will never know
A mystery
It’s the ripple in the pond
The secrets through every smile
Slowly escaping
The eyes
A true beauty
As some my say 'the windows to another’s soul’
Eyes tell you everything you need to know
They are the story
Smiling with your eyes is something else
Smiles and eyes go hand in hand
Deceiving, yet convincing
A lure
They strike you with curiosity
Making you want to open Pandora’s box
Each seductive look bringing you closer
No notice, until it’s too late
It’s a mask
What’s your smile hiding?

(2013)

This came to me as I thought about everything I have been through. How everyday I put a smile on my face and push through my troubles. Because I know that if I hold on or try too hard for something, happiness for example, it won't come easier. You have to have troubles to know what it means to have an easy life.
