Romanticized.

So many people talk about broken hearts and shattered souls
the truth in my mind about pain I have left untold
like strands of copper, deposits of gold
buried deep within the earth, a flower yet to unfold

Many I have seen romanticizing this
making suffering seem pleasant, making you think you could almost want it.
too many souls wish to be tempered by fire!
to many hearts destroyed by what others desire...

Suffering is not a pleasant feeling
to fight off your demons with a dull sword is not appealing.
for a heart to desire the struggle is so unnerving
while others are sweating,
bleeding,
burning.

They are trying to survive, doing what they can to get by
while each of their demons takes a pound of their flesh
breathing in the vapor of their pain, using it to get high

Do they truly want to know what its like
to hold that rope, to grasp that knife
and beg yourself to find a reason
whether to live or die
begging to please just find a reason,  find a reason
other
than "just survive"

On the romanticisation of mental illness.
