I am Me

I am from the slums of Minneapolis
Crowded streets where colors differ
Fists a fly, bottles in the air
On this cold winter night.

From mountains to magnificent pines
Vast stretches of barren fields
Black furniture and white walls
A planned future and forgotten past.

I am from three generations of people:
Allum, Nelson, and Ortiz
One man I call my father
One only known as my doner.

My greatest of memories is the ones with them
My family outside of home
Marching our way, instruments in hand
Posture proud and patient.

I am from Blake Shelton and Tupac
From the thumping bass in my brother’s truck
From the cool breezes and fall smell
A small blonde in a big world.
