Nothing should be free

I know people that complain
When they didn’t get that car
Or that brand new phone.
And when they do,
I never hear them say
How grateful they are that they got it,
Or how they worked countlessly to earn it.
I work for all I’ve got.
That phone?
I paid for it.
That bow?
I worked for it.
That rifle?
I traded for it.
I work hours upon hours
Days upon days
For the things that I want to have.
Raised in a family where getting
Exactly what you want
Whenever you want it
Doesn’t exist.
While everyone else begs their mommy,
I am in the fields.
