What is to Come

This is a poem that starts out uninteresting and weird. You have to read to the very end to understand.

There is a glow amongst the ceiling
A slight blue from the night light below,
The blue calms me.

I am swimming in a sea of blankets
Struggling to stay warm in the cold,
The warmth calms me.

Country music plays quietly
Whispering a sweet melody in my ear,
The melody calms me.

My dog lies at my feet
Her breathing gone heavy,
The feeling calms me.

I slip closer to sleep as figments of my imagination
Dance on the wall calling me to join,
The feeling scares me.

I drift closer to what is to come
A horror filled restless night
With no end to the torture.

Haunting me when awake
Torturing me when asleep,
Neverending.

Yet I let it slip closer
So desperate to close my eyes
But I know what is to come.

Death
Sorrow,
Sadness.

Pain
Grief,
Fear.

This is what awaits me
And I cannot avoid it,
I must simply give in and face it.
