God-Husband (1st husband)

For Andre Andrews

The ash tray was filled with cigarette butts,
And his clothing and teeth seemed the same.

He was a handsome fellow; sweet and jovial,
And his teeth were stained yellow.

His hand’s, calloused from work, his eyes;
Bloodshot red, but still he managed
to get me in bed.

I loved him, after A—while
I grew accustomed to his tired kinda smile,
And he loved me

In his own way
He bought me pot’s and pans
In the month of “May”

His back was strong
His chest like stone
His arm’s were hard
His abs [8] shown

He worked very hard from day into night,
When he came home, his bath water was just right!

He was a man
Just one common man
He drank his beer
And sat with his feet by
The fan.

Cheer’s to him,
Long life I pray he,
No longer we are together,
But; my friend he’ll always
Be...
