KERR

He came around the corner,

didn’t say anything.

For he knew

futile words would be of no help,

nor were they accepted.

He stood alone,

never taking his eyes away.

Not once.

And those eyes stayed

in mine.

I could see in those eyes

pain.

tragedy.

agony.

A pain all too familiar.

A pain I have seen,

nearly all of my life.

My comfort ripped away

in those uneasy eyes.

We didn’t want it.

To feel it.

To see it.

And in that moment,

we shared that illness.

And we knew

we’d had enough.
