A Soul's Sight

To Marcy Howard

In the middle of the night,
Immersed inside a dream,
The darkness holds its haunting lure,
In memories thought obscene,
A ghostly figure haunts this land,
While a face is all that’s seen,
As the question what was real,
Leaves a soul caught in between.

As the darkness reaches out,
A souls caught in its grasp,
But will the past control your path,
Until your dying gasp

A face is seen every night,
But its features slowly change,
To one person then back again,
With darkness the picture frame,
As death takes someone from your life,
Yet someone fills the void,
And no matter what transpires,
Lives the memory you can’t avoid

As the darkness reaches out,
This soul caught in its grasp,
Will the past control your path,
Until your dying gasp

Need and longing come every night,
With the dark, an eden yet a curse,
As the scars control a heart,
And in darkness you’re immersed,
But in the void there exists a light,
Through the days can it be enough,
To keep from returning to the past,
And living on memories crust.

Ad the darkness reaches out,
With this soul caught in its grasp,
Will the past control your path,
Until your dying gasp

In the darkness a dream whispers to you,
At times its filled with unseen tears,
And if that darkness holds your heart,
Your dreams no one can hear,
The silence and the darkness,
Still hold a source of light,
But will the light be enough,
To help this soul overcome the night.
