From the Heart Flows

Marcy

A torrent of words tumbles out,
Like the flooding of a river,
In real life people die,
And water becomes both taker and giver,
At times emotion becomes the force,
That acts just like a dam,
But when the water gets to deep,
A torrent  flows from this man.

In the words that end up on paper,
Are the clues to who I may be,
But what use is the effort,
If the words you never hear or see,
Something somehow takes shape inside,
The voice of things I feel,
And when it finally comes to pass,
Can you recognize that it’s real.

At times it takes just a day or two,
Yet months could be what it takes,
And once the flow really begins,
Is there some sense that any of it makes,
Words that come from a heart breaking,
Words from healing if it occurs,
Words of love and words of laughter,
Or any emotion to which we refer.

There are words about things or places,
And those that echo things we feel,
Words of things we’ve never seen,
With words of things we know aren’t real,
Some might only mention water,
While others mention skies of blue,
Words that speak of mountains of pain,
And the words that speak of you.

The words might flow in different ways,
Though at times There’s no flow at all,
Sometimes the words say nothing,
But at times they loudly call,
The words may speak of mountain tops,
Or some long and lonely trail,
At times they speak of new ideas,
Yet there are times they seem so stale.

Words at times can bring on darkness,
But there are times they bring us light,
But through the course of our lives,
Forever holds day and night,
Events occur beyond our control,
And without warning love begins,
Yet in the end it’s not the words,
It’s only the heart that wins.
