Tailor of Gloucester

Soft morning rays, pierced the pane.
Dimmed by jack-frost’s rain.
Accompanied by a tabby cat,
the Tailor snipped and snapped,
on show - in the window.

Fine taffeta of yellow;
corded silk of cherry,
flecked with flowers.
One and twenty button holes,
to trim with cherry twist.

Shop shut tight, Tailor inside,
fever stricken. Bed ridden.
Dreaming nightmares,
coat unfinished.
Deadlines looming!

Miniature miracles appear,
Furry, four-legged furore.
Squeak and scurry,
sew, sew, sew,
Unbeknown to Tailor.

Astounded on awakening,
all but a button hole, is done!
Shocked, he stitches the last,
making his fortune.
Saved by mice.
