Fire

Fire
We sit around you every night
You keep us warm, you burn so bright
And in a while you penetrate
And all we have to do is wait
We are men and you are fire
We’ve known each other
For so very long

We need your heat to generate
You cook our meals up while we wait
You come with a warning sign
You’ve been here since the dawn of time
And while we have the passion
Where would we be right now
Without the flame?

You are just an element
The one that heaven never sent
And while you are destructive
You also breathe new life
As calm and still as candle light
Or forest fire that haunts night
If I tell your story
Will I help to set you free
Your bright colors never late
You draw us in, hypnotic state
At times perhaps I’ll get to hot
I’ll burn and rage like I forgot
I’ll take down all your tree’s
Until there’s only ashes
Left to see

While I destroy, I do create
The undergrowth they sit in wait
Until I’m in a dormant place
But when I rage, you’ll know my face
I am fire
I’ll burn within
Let me rest before I play

You are just an element
The one that heaven never sent
And while you are destructive
You also breathe new life
As calm and still as candle light
Or forest fire that haunts night
If I tell your story
Will I help to set you free
Or maybe, just me!
