Summers Light

Summers Light

Curious eyes or butterflies
Won’t rest or fly away
Moments caught in picture stills
What would they have to say?

Heavy feet leave bigger trails
Caress the lands we walk
And all the watchers are looking on
If only they could talk

Summers Light

Curious eyes or butterflies
Won’t rest or fly away
Moments caught in picture stills
What would they have to say?

Heavy feet leave bigger trails
Caress the lands we walk
And all the watchers are looking on
If only they could talk

Rows of beds all lined up
Colors bright from song
Here come the visitors
Collections won’t take long

Song that flows with sounds complete
They balance in clear sight
Shaking autumn leaves of rust
That were aged by summers light

Whenever there are notes to fill
The air will help a hand
Whenever there are songs to sing
You can hear them through the land
Just as sure as day is light
That night will come to call
Creeping seasons start to rise
Before, they start to fall

Nature smiles and wakes up
She knows what she must do
Mother of experience
You’re never overdue

Imagine silent waking days
Old shadows lying still
Or flowers that want to rise
With wonder if they will

Whenever there are notes to fill
The air will help a hand
Whenever there are songs to sing
You can hear them through the land
Just as sure as day is light
That night will come to call
Creeping seasons start to rise
Before, they start to fall

What would they have to say?

Lee Rice

(2012)

I turned this into a song just over a year ago. I wrote it
while I was looking into the garden and thinking about nature.
