Nightlight

Turn on the nightlight, my blankets are bared.
I’m wary of darkness and being alone.
Too young to take chances, too old to be scared,
Lost in a maze of self caused syndromes.
Turn on the nightlight and light up the halls
That I wander in search of the truth of a dream.
The sun is for waking; save me ere night falls.
The beacon will beckon me forth with its gleam.
Turn on the nightlight, I couldn’t, I won’t.
The fire’s too real, I can’t do it myself.
Save me from hell; leave me here, or don’t.
The storybooks laid on the sill and the shelf
Are the noises that comfort me deep in my sleep
Where the hallways are lit with your beacon so bright.
The dark is the chest for my secrets to keep,
The day is for dreaming, and you’re for the night.
