Various short poems

A collection of random thought processes

Sadie’s Salad
Sadie was a lady,
She was prettier than most,
Always a quiet, modest girl,
She never liked to boast,
But if any dish she cooked
Tasted better than compost,
It was salad.

Sandman
If the Sandman comes to visit you
Before the break of day,
Hit him till he’s unconscious
And then take his sand away.
(If you never go to sleep
Then you’ll have lots more time to play.)

The Day of the Crows
When eyes will be ripped asunder
To be given the gift of sight,
When a melancholy call
Will shatter the boundaries of the sky,
When ignorance is abandoned
To embrace wisdom,
When the sleeping world
Finally begins to awaken.
It is coming.

Thoughts
There was a man who thought a thought,
And what a thought it was.
He thought about it all night long;
He thought that thought because
This thought that his brain wrought
Was too rare ever to be bought.
What was the thought that the man thought?
Oh darn it, I forgot.

To Charlotte, With Love
I’ll teach you how to plant
If you teach me how to grow.

The Truth Hurts
I feel I’m racing toward a red light
In a car that has no wheels
Every time I peek out of
The windows in my room
At a world with a high tolerance for pain
Repeatedly stabbing itself unknowingly
With a knife it made
Without anyone else’s help.

My Haiku
Haikus are hard, man.
Every time I try
To write one, I fail.

The Great Questions and Jokes
I approached an old man,
Frail and decrepit,
Alone and fading,
And asked him
“What is the meaning of life?”
He just laughed.
I asked,
“Why are we here?”
He laughed harder.
I asked,
“Does it ever get any easier?”
The man laughed so hard
That his old heart couldn’t take it.
Now he’s gone.
So why am I laughing?

The Opposite of Infinity
The end.

Untitled
I see her smiling in my mind.
I see her smiling in my heart.
I see her smiling in my dreams.
My eyes close to be rid of her
Yet she is waiting, smiling.

And when my poor eyes pry open
And I see her in the real world,
She is smiling, she is smiling,
But her smile is not for me.

I am only an afterthought,
A thought without priority,
A concept without a meaning.
She is right. And I am wrong.

She exists in all my mornings,
She exists in all my evenings,
I see her when I am sleeping,
I crave her when I'm awake.

But she cannot be for my mind,
And she cannot be for my heart.
She can only be for my dreams.
My eyes close to be rid of her
And she is waiting, smiling.

Downfall
My waking eyes close, and my dreams, they inspire
The pulse of my heart and the heat of its fire.
I am restless and wakened
And lay here, forsaken
By the lust that comes from my darkest desire.
