Tangled Trance

It’s easy to conceal.

It’s easy not to feel.

Biting your lip,
Holding your tongue,
It gets to the point
Where that’s all to be done.
You feel empty.
You’re completely lost,
Ignoring the price,
It’s never too high a cost
To fill the hole,
End the pain,
To steady shaking hands.
But stepping down,
Giving up,
It’s quite impossible admitting
You’re that half-filled cup.

Your parents warned
About girls like me.
And you saw me coming,
Yet you did not see
That I was a crashing wave,
A graying cloud.
Trying to keep from you,
To not let you down.
How I tried to swallow,
Let it encase my lungs.
On a fraying rope,
It all hung.

I wanted it over.
To just go away.

Cause smiling had always been easier
Than finding words to say.
But when I lost my smile,
I never found another way
To cope with the memory,
That you forgot one day.
