Lady in the Lake

Tonight I went looking for the lady in the lake
Her emerald eyes peering through my dreams
Calling me to her murky water that bit my skin
Flesh tightened and raised as I slipped and sank
Farewells sent to the starch moon worrying above
Pearly teeth appear in eager greeting
Strain for my next breath is eased
As hands of silk find my narrow wrist
Pulled in close but no warm embrace
Instead a chill spreads from the inside out
Frozen, not in time for that is gone
Hair tickles my cheek, she is thrilled
No longer alone in the dark depth
Tonight the lady in the lake found me
