Pillager

If I pretend not to love you will you see me?
Once so joyful you showered me with adoration and warmth
As a pillager would you wrestled my tarnished shell apart to reveal the prize within
Is the pearl to grand for you to behold or are you displeased with the value
Perhaps it was the expedition that you treasured, and sadly it is over
My shell is penetrated revealing all that I have barricaded to keep preserved
Not a violent being you have no desires to damage, you simply have no desires
Tempted to pull my shell back hoping to reel you in along with it
If I pretend not to love you will you see me again?
Craving your attention like those of whom I’ve pitied
You may have cracked more than you originally intended
Now that you have the reality sinks in, there is absolutely no going back
No longer enclosed I can breathe and feel completely unrestricted
Continuing to grow and shimmer whether you are looking or not
Giving you up is something I don’t want to do but will if I have to
If I pretend not to love you will you see me?
