a button for every occasion

a symphony of whispers

a button you wear for every occasion
your love holds me still, its anchor drowning me,
an ornate deluge of memories of you
tiptoes a rare nostalgic profusion,
we’ve soared just as eagles have
on a tangent of immutable gracefulness,
though, that dove of peace you gave as a keepsake
was just a pigeon in a tattered disguise,

don’t change for me, not one thing
I love you that way whether natural or made,
for me, don’t change and obscure the real you
let me see all your open doors, don’t hide in the shade,
I wish to know all your vulnerability, every crack
you could keep the natives willingly sedated,
lest they show cause for concern and a sentient word
what we desire is a gratis and an unintentional bonus,

locked in the rumination of a spark flying contemplation
my telephoto eye is fixed on you, it strains an ocular dance,
where you built a barricade around my joy
and you had no need to mask my emptiness with your ambition,
your emotive movements hit me like they meant it
I’ve been too serious and exceptionally odd and maudlin,
but when we lay down together I forget the universe and life and death
you throttle out of me a sigh, it flows on a symphony of whispers

love can be new, no matter how old and tattered
love can be great, whether bruised or battered
give yourself to it and it will change your soul
your heart will radiate beyond all control,
