weekend pass

got a weekend pass
to let myself down
the symmetry of simplicity
will confuse and dumbfound

got a head full of nothing
and too much to say
my sugar-free world
just doesn’t taste the same

because I’d lie through my teeth
and I’d let myself burn
just to suffer the anger
incurred by your spurn

and over and over
I’ll spiral out of control
and over and over
I’ll crash I’ll crash

so, this is my last chance, but its ok
cos its just my last chance of today,
I’ll succeed then force myself to fail
and with a smile I’ll hammer in my last nail,
so, this is my last chance, and I feel fine
cos its just my last chance of the night,
you know I’ll lose, I wasn’t born to win
got a weekend pass come watch me crumbling

I swear some nights I hear my voice
it speaks to me beyond the static noise,
it says a demons heart is a reckless find
if you walk the path you’ll only toe the line

many’s the time I’ve sauntered down the rain
head in the clouds where the eagles rest,
through a desert sky that’s overgrown
a disease of clipped wings have my tears overflown,

and I say lord, if your there, please take me
somewhere else, if only in a dream,
my mind has raced and its fallen flat
I’m at your feet, I’m on my knees,

I’ve lain a pace and trod in steps
in circles, that’s where I’ll always be,
I don’t believe in you, in temptation I do
please give me a sign, my self destruction’s on the line,

so, this is my last chance before I die
to look at the world with a sober eye,
I’ve lived my life taunting death
and I’m tired, I’m so tired,
so, this is my last chance to be a man
the one I can’t change, I do the best I can
take these clips from my wings
shoot me down, but you’ll do it while I’m free

my epitaph will read short verse
he died a death, his life was terse
he was born free, though lived a slave
in the chains and shackles that he himself made

more of a song than a poem capo 4th fret
