whose needs do i service

Whose needs do I serve
When I’m kneeling in the dirt
And my brow is wet with misery
Bled from the grind of dawn to dusk

Whose needs do I serve
When the rod isn’t spared
And teeth bite down on blistered hands
And determination is under prepared

Whose needs do I serve
When my eager heads in the noose
And I’m bouncing at the trap door
Tightening rope I deem too loose

Whose needs do I serve
I’ve lived a life sourly tasted by few
Not one selfish act of brilliance glows
Just a brief resume of nothing new

Whose needs do I serve
When life is a fading reminiscence
And all days added up cast a shadow
Over nothing more than pittance
