1st Degree Redemption

I am going to dig
your grave in time
and someone else
will be digging mine—
Mortality is
the only key
to the altruistic
lock of crime.
I made you a montage
of peaceful scenes
to blend in with
while you die—
I hope you shine
beyond the means
by which
your spirit binds.
I wanted more
than the murderous hands
of my grandfather’s
obdurate clock—
When you take a life;
part of you follows
whether you like it
or not.
We are lost in vigil;
rotting in puzzles;
claiming the choices
we’ve made—
And over the years
we eventually learn;
the blood stays on
the blade.
I will be free
from moral rot
when I leave
this shell of strife—
I don’t believe
in any god,
but I believe
in my next life.
