A Sonnet to Venus from Mars

In case you vow to drown my love in debt,
Without my mind inclined to see the trap—
I hope you know, I live and thrive in threat,
I’ll torch the bridge before you reach the gap.
The will I sow, I do, with what I reap,
And all the trash I use to make my bed—
The seed you plant for me within my sleep,
Is set to wrap like vines around your head.
If mirth is born of fire inside your heart,
You’ll burn yourself to death the way you are—
For I will hide the truth I could impart,
To laugh and watch you rip apart your scar.
So if it’s hell by which you wish to fare,
By all the means, I’d love to take you there.
