Unconditionally

“The only way love can last a lifetime is if it's unconditional.
The truth is this: love is not determined by the one being loved
but rather by the one choosing to love.”
Stephen Kendrick, The Love Dare

She remembers when she fell in love with him
Head over heels, hopelessly, unconditionally
Not so long ago but a lifetime it would seem
She’d cared for him totally and passionately

They met two years ago thru an acquaintance
A friendship blossomed right from the start
He’s got looks that deserve a second glance
But he’s annoying, always right and too smart

He tries hard to be funny; and you will find
Him always smiling; infuriatingly gregarious
He’s often clumsy yet his manners are refined
He’s a goofball but his laughter’s infectious

They dated a few times, but it wasn’t serious
Or so she thought; even if she could well see
That he truly cares for her and she’s curious
If they’ll forever get along and always agree

And then one night they went to see a movie
A sad story set during the French revolution
Just a minute gone, she’s in tears instantly
She sobbed loudly, racked by all the emotion

He put his arms around her, and then she saw
His eyes glistening while he held back tears
He looked vulnerable, his emotions quite raw
For her, he became human with joys and fears

That was the moment she fell in love with him
Head over heels, hopelessly, unconditionally
It was not so long ago, it was not on a whim
She promised to love him forever passionately

An old poem I found in one of my folders, I wrote it almost ten years ago. May be a little rough, but eh!
