Burning the bridge

I saw you and I knew,
Knew that I would have to burn our bridge.
In my life I’ve been guarded by walls,
By secrets that were not my doing,
But ones that were my burden to bare.
You saw them after nearly a lifetime of hiding them.
And I knew I’d have to burn it,
Burn it before it burned you.
I made my choices,
And only ever hurt myself,
The took that was my match for so long.
I couldn’t bare to hurt you,
So I destroy myself knowing you’ll never stay.
For this choice was not easy,
Nor was it foreseen.
It went off and burned so quick,
With no one again the wiser,
A burden I carry with me.
A burden that is necessary.
You would call it insanity,
But I call it inevitability. .
