The Serpent's Armor

(1)

I have come to realize,
that something secret,
slumbers within me.

Inscrutable and yet,
somehow luminous,
like a candle that mocks,
the arrival of dusk.

(2)

Feverish and unwilling,
I refuse to desert,
this ancient cage.

I act without clarity,
and seek to misdirect,
those that would invade,
this sanctuary.

(3)

And yet somehow within,
these bitter iron walls,
something new is born.

An elongated serpent,
clad in warrior’s armor,
constricts upon the heart,
of uncertainty.

(4)

Enlivened by rapture,
change gives form,
to altered perception.

And ever so quickly,
my essence, a holy spear,
rises at last,
to pierce the heavens.
