The Light in the Night

The light in the night
Burns bright in my sight
And I see over me
The latchkey Calliope
The lock on the door
That burned me before
Is now cold and ajar

And my faith which was mine
And on the decline
I traded in time
For a liar’s best line
A false prophet’s sign
And a few memories

So I devoted myself
To reviving the dead
A mistake that I’ll always regret
And the fog carried me
From the river of Mercy
To a land where you cannot
See ghosts

Oh what a relief
To hide from my grief
So I thanked the great chief
Who leads as a thief
Who I believed in
Because he covered my eyes

But now I’m unsure
And a 7 year tour
Is more to endure
Than I meant to sign for
As I sing for no thing
Except for the ring
That was found on the floor

Where her innocence once swore
At her sincere allure
An impure contour
For which there’s no cure

Except to obscure from my view

The Merced’s mourning dew
Perfect brown eyes
And dark star-burned skies
