Black Friday

(to the tune of "Lord of the Dance" hymn)

I danced in the city when the day was begun
I danced around the throngs and wondered what was going on
I wondered what it was that had such much worth
that I joined a queue from a new day’s birth

Spend then, wherever you may be
It used to be only American this Black Friday
Now they’ll make you spend, wherever you may be
they’ll make you spend on Black Friday

I’ve moved to an island where the currency was smiles
I was was  still given me credit, though it did take a while
I was made to buy all these things I’ll never need
to fullfill the need of unconstrained greed

Spend then, wherever you may be
It used to be only American this Black Friday
Now they’ll make you spend, wherever you may be
they’ll make you spend on Black Friday

I danced for the devil when the day was black
It’s hard to dance with a TV on your back
They pushed me and shoved me and bled my card dry
and left me consumed by false bargains to die

Spend then, like good consumers must
It’s best to buy it all and then go bust
They’ll take your kids if you cannot to pay
but that’s okay on Black Friday

Spend then, wherever you may be
It used to be only American this Black Friday
Now they’ll make you spend, wherever you may be
they’ll make you spend on Black Friday

(2014)

Just messing about cos I can't help noticing the ridiculous consumerism of Black Friday seems to have migrated over here to the UK all of a sudden and we've all gone mad with it.
