I Made the Avalanche

She’s by the window, the sun a paper disc behind the cracked mountains,
Her eyes haunt the fall of night.
I’m letting it go, wrap a coat around my heart, tight,
The snow outside builds in mounds.
We cut the phone, voices rattle a thousand miles away,
It couldn’t be more perfect.

If she knew,
I think she knows
Maybe,
I don’t,
I can’t begin to

Her memory is weak, it’s all right here,
The flash of lightning in clouds
Hands in my pockets, my face set in stone,
This will be a place I forget.
This place, it’s ours, cratered into the snow,
She knows it will stand forever.

You don’t,
No you don’t know
You couldn’t,
You just,
You just don’t

Night is falling into us, crushing waves,
I guess now’s the time.
The door carves back to the frame, the shape at the window
Watches my shadow shrink.
I raise my hands, a world apart,
And bring them together.
The thunder cracks the cliff, tears the still,
And drowns all we know in winter.
