No Conviction

The lights that fire in the sky,
Are halogen, and hospital white.

The songs that lovers share at night,
Come vacuum packed, one dollar nine five.

And all the worlds behind your eyes,
They grew, you knew,
One day they’d die,
To be usurped by bricks and bones,
And everything you tried to fight.

Forget the truths you thought you knew,
The Earth is solid
All the way through.

The snow that pivots as it falls,
Is frozen water, nothing more.

The tethered touch of loves gone by,
Are ghosts of brain waves, left behind.

And that new sun you long to chase,
That hides, and bides,
That painted face,
His siren song of peace and plan
Rings from a point you cannot place.

Turn deaf your ears to dawns new fiction,
Our sun will rise
With no conviction.

The ghouls that loom through shadowed sight
Are slips of shapes lost in the night.

The sugared sting of lovers smiles
Are muscles stitched and strained too wide.

And every verse to which you cling,
Will seed, to leave,
A humbled ring,
Of rattled breath and prayer unheard,
When words betray their conjured kings.

Set still the song of paper crowns,
The world sits small
And silent now.
