Old Folks with hope

A dream never to be seen

they sit outside bathing in the scorching sun, with broken chairs that compares to the broken dreams of their children, but they sit with hope that there is still a table where division does not exist and beauty conquers all that is evil. they hold on to words of hope like a blind child clinging on to his mother’s dress so that he can not loose his way even if she gets lost with his mother. they converse words that are not understood by the young blood and they laugh hopelessly and helplessly as if they want to call death because their bodies are weak and can no longer hold that amount of laughter. old folks staring at the sky as if they have written answers to every problem that shall arise should it arise. they complain about aching backs and swollen feet, about their grandchildren stealing their money and about not having milk. yet with hope their hearts grow fonder as they see what the world has to offer now; their children can go to school and be educated folks. they fancy with all their being that their daughters find honest men with good jobs and morals. they sit on the stoep and passers-by think they do not have plans, if only they knew that they were making plans for them and designing a beautiful plan that is going to work for everyone but them. they sit outside on broken chairs that compares to the dreams of their children. they dare dream a dream that has never been dreamt before because they see a possibility of it happening. drinking bitter lemonade to get their hearts jumping afraid that death might play debt collector, they fear death might come without them having realised their dream– to see good hard working folks going to work and feeding their children and loving them just right. old folks do not want much from the world other than for it to offer them their comfort zone where they can bathe in the scorching sun and dream for their children.
