This poem is part of a duet
inspired by Cory Garcia's Welcoming Me Home

Winter Solstice Morning.
The first timid rays of sun light
Slide along the window,
Illuminating the intricate frozen lace
Grandfather Frost has painted
On the glass overnight.
The world outside
Is shaking off
The last shreds of dark,
Revealing its sparkling snow-white garment.
The warmth of your body
Is already gone
As my fingers skim over
Ripples of the sheets.
Fire crackling in the hearth,
Its heat infusing the air,
So comforting...
No need for thick covers.
I half kick them off,
The slumber is hard to shake.
I do not want to wake
Without the feeling
Of your caress on my skin,
Your Good Morning kiss on my shoulder.
So I close my eyes...
Until I hear the door
And sense the rush
Of chill, crisp gust of air
Along with the fragrance of freshly split wood
Ash and Oak,
And the tangy firewood smoke.
And you in the doorway,
The Sun of my eyes.
Your muscles still tense and trembling
From your labor of morn.
You near closer,
Sheer love pours from your gaze
All over me.
No, we definitely don’t need the covers.
I pull you to me with a quiet smile,
I take your cold hand in mine,
Lay it on my chest,
Feel my warm heart beating for you?
Welcome home,
Come, kiss me Good Morning...

The way you write of love, it consumes me. Deep, vulnerable. I do not like to feel powerless, but for your poems I make the exception

Thank you for the praise, Duce. I do oftentimes find inspiration in the works of my fellow poets, like yourself :-)
But speaking from the heart is the key for me :-)
