If I ever write
a poem and give it
the title “A Dream”...

Do not read that poem.
Hesitate before every word,
lock it up in the family lockbox
and toss it in the basement,
feeding it leftover
fish from the weekly
market trips.
Oiling its chains
to keep them from rusting.

Because if I ever gave a poem
such a name,
I have surely gone insane.
