She sat there
across the table from me
as music blared through
the night sky.

Heavy majestic clouds,
sweetly scented strawberries,
hung in the air around us
as I asked for her name.

The night crowd around us
dancing and laughing
as they pretend to know
the drinking in of love.
Mockingly hopeful adults,
even though they are,
even though they aren't.

I stayed the same,
in that moment,
though nervous
as I realized she
was looking at me,
remembering my name.
Though I had yet
to speak
of such a thing.

I wish I had.
I wish I had told her.

That was a really good night
