I Follow My Heart Instead

There is a wondrous road ahead of me,
As I’ve enlivened the road behind,
I’ve the stars and the moon above me
And yet my presence of mind;
Thus I’ll keep my thoughts feral and free
As I each day onward tread,
For as others live to trudge and trial away
I follow my heart instead.

I’ve journeyed the road to sunnier days,
I’ve reveled in fields of flowers,
I’ve strolled the hills and the folds alike
And whiled away the hours;
I’ve imposed upon life’s virtues
Far from the cosmopolitan spread,
For as others woe and wither their lives away
I follow my heart instead!

I breathe the tranquil air, unfettered and free,
I keep to the road alight,
Thus tomorrow remains the adventure ahead
That feathers my wings of flight.
O’ I possess the purse of a pauper,
As toward the horizon I tread,
But as others live to trudge and trial away
I follow my heart instead.
