This Face

This reflected face I see could not be mine;
O’ I wish this not to be,
But this mirrored spirit of wasted time
Is looking back at me.

Alas has come this image stark—
O’ thro’ the years I did not see
That time was passing and thus enhancing
What I truly thought was me.

The lines of time have marked this face,
But I’d not noticed them before,
And a youthful mind that in the mirror was
I see is there no more.

O’ where have gone those youthful years?
What has happened through time to me?
Alas, this mirrored face that I see within
Is not the reflection it was to be!

This reflected face I see could not be mine,
O’ of this it cannot be,
For in my youthful dreams of what was to come
This I did not see!

Within the mirror deep, where time reflects,
I’ve seen what has become of me,
For the reflection today that I thought was there
Is not the face that now I see!
