chameleon soul

ride

I live a life,
A life to please.
Where no-one knows the in-between.
Some what of an irony.
A soul that is open, lock and key
With a cellar door, a frozen dream.
Struggling, cuz’ these thoughts aren’t free,
Vulnerability you take from me.
I loose my grip, I yell, I plead.
“Don’t take my dignity away from me.”
I blend in crowds, I blend in words,
I converse, yet I’m not heard.
I plea the 5th you plea the 3rd,
doesn’t matter its spoken word.
I wake up to do it again,
nothing is better than a chameleon friend.

In her spoken word monologue in Ride, Del Rey describes how her mother always told her she had a chameleon soul, “no moral compass pointing due North, no fixed personality, just an inner indecisiveness that was as wide and unwavering as the ocean.”
