Scars

I see myself in a mirror,
My face is marked by hate and fear,
Scarred by the many wasted days
Spent pursuing sinful ways.

I see the lines left by my pride,
Left by the scorn that long since died.
Deep stains of grief are frozen there,
Where my folly lead to despair.

'Round  my eyes lie the shadows of rage,
Hate for other actors on life’s stage.
The stubborn set of my jaw
Resisting another’s law.

But look! Here my brow is clear,
Unmarked by sorrow or by fear.
I start once more on a clean page,
For Christ has paid sin’s deadly wage.
