The Weary Road

She turned her back
Went out the door
Gone to search
For something more.
Crumbling idols
Line her halls.
Shredded pictures
On the walls.
She knows the truth,
Knows where to look,
But still she runs
Far from the Book.
This freedom
She so long sought
Is webbed with snares
And now she’s caught.
And still she looks
But does not see
The truth that waits
To set her free.
Another man,
Another day,
Further, further
Drawn away
New dresses,
New cars,
More drinks,
More bars.
If she would stop
And count the cost
She would know
Why she feels lost.
the broad way,
So well trod;
Leads so far
Away from God
So many travelled
It so long,
Could so many
Be so wrong?

So she chose
The harder path
The long road
Under God’s wrath.
