a soldiers tale

a soldiers to be
wears with pride
for all to see
in my uniform
to serve my country
was best for me

soldiers torn weary torn body
lies in a hospital bed
with blood stained sheets
i see a angel by the sea
o god help me

in field of battle
a war soldier i be
it was a direct hit
to have thee legs to bits

like a soldiers fear
with thy feet apart
from the deep depts of hell
it was a bloody shell

unknown soldier
killed in action
his life was cut short
but not in vain
as we suffer all his pain

we who remain
live to tell the tale
a soldiers fight
was not in vain

hand on heart
a medal of valour
pride of a soldier
tis the victoria cross
the queen bestowed opon thee

(2015)

going down of the sun
and in the morning
we will remember them

success is not final
failure is not fatal
its the courage to continue
that counts
