miners

to a bairns cuddle doon
to a misty moon
tis a home poet
from the toon

remember the miners
keep our firesides
warm at night
as you sleep
unsung heroes
in caverns dusty deep

on poppy main street
as wee all meet
home made tea and cakes
go back home to sleep

building of pink
tis the auld pub
made me think
lets have a drink

st conals square
to walk up thy stairs
to stand on chairs
floods of despair
help those in need of repairs

to the miners hall
lets have a ball
ii is your call

to a football drover
call me a rover
thank god that’s all over
won our game
last of the season

main street
smells of fish
of the sea
a fish supper for me

gala day
what can i say
lets hope for a sunny day
and for all to stay
queen of floats
to the pipers band
tis our last stand
see you all back next year
