The Flood

The waters came into my heart
I thought we would never be apart
This flood of grief that overcame
Would forever now direct my aim

To places that I should never tread
To lands and countries full of dread
To scenes no eyes should ever see
My wish now, to be an absentee

Trapped then into this dark place
I drop to my knees, and ask for grace
The veil is lifted, but my loss remains
From this point on I am in chains

But each day a link shall fall away
That chain of mine will soon decay
Though each link lost will cause me pain
A shred of life I shall not see again

Looking back to those good days
I am with strength full of praise
For your life in light ablaze
Am I now right for these new ways?

(2013)

Following the sudden death of my son in 2005 I began to write poetry as a way of getting to understand and balance my grief. This is one of those poems, The grief though has not escaped me....
