Above the Anxiety

Out of the reach
of fear and despair,
beyond the feel of the pain,
the grasping of its evil arms
around our well-being,
the pulling us down
to its own level,
there lies a better place above.

An island in the midst,
inside but yet out,
hearing the cries
but too far away to
feel the pain,
close enough to touch
but too disconnected to feel it,
too far along the pathway
to spiritual enlightenment,
too far away from the grasp
of fear’s lonely arms,
its wanting for us
to feel the pain with it,
it’s intimacy, its envy,
its communal spirit,
and its discontentment.

Oh such a beautiful world
of no discontent
outside of anxiety,
where fear is only
an awareness,
but not the whole world.
