Aiming High

Aiming High

And then I climbed upon the ladder of dreams
Of murmuring streams and golden sunsets
Of anxious paradises outside my home
Where easy fortunes grew from my garden

Life’s to be a crystal ocean, a pleasure to cross
With smiles aboard and soft winds at my back
Fishes jumping in the boat and blue skies above
A playground for the enchanted sailor to sail

Black clouds dressed in their ugly costumes
Came to visit before land’s first sighting
Tearing down the doors in their demolition
With swirling winds going to war with me
Giving me a lesson to what life is all about

Now as I lay my head upon the table
Next to my empty rum bottle
I keep mumbling the words of the wise
“Aiming high is within God’s command
Set backs will occur as an obstacle
Not to give into.”
