Of Duty To Uphold

When mother and father first met,
Through the magic of affinity yet,
As he placed her upon her pedestal,
She said, “I do” to his proposal.

Duty has a way of grounding dreams
Of carefree love and romantic moonbeams.
Father had visions of combining the two,
As love kept its spark going thru’ and thru’.

I was born as a symbol of their devotion,
As careful planning was put in motion.
I am the son of good fortune,
Of his duty that he upheld.
Happy Father’s day. God rest his soul.

I wrote this for the Father's Day issue of "The Belt And Beyond."
