Simplicity
The preacher introduced his family to his new congregation. One of his boys was “afflicted” with down-syndrome. Everyone was stunned but they tried to cover up their reactions and still be gracious as if everything was normal, but deep down inside, they felt sorry for him. Pity is acquired through the cultivation of reasoning.
The boy sat in the congregation with a gleaming smile as if he was touched by God; what everybody else was trying to be and wish they were.
He couldn’t understand what his father was saying, but the message was ingrained in his heart since he was born.
Intelligence teeters on the fence that divides prosperity and confusion. Dreams give us the incentive to prosper, but also elevate our standards of idealism. When they are set too high, we become frustrated when we can’t reach them. The simple minds of those where prosperity is out of reach for them, smile whole heartedly with God’s blessing not knowing how close they are to him. God’s grace has granted them the freedom to live in a world of innocence and simplicity, far removed from too much intelligence that either stimulates success or creates confusion by conflicting ideals.
God didn’t give him the capacity to let doubt and confusion influence his life. He still had a temper and some sad moments, but like all little children, they were quickly forgotten about.
He was by all means not blessed at birth but was prepared to accept what he was and sheltered by his simplicity. It seams that God has chosen some of us to be children all of our lives.
