The Dissention

Coming to a head in the days of yore,
The tightening grew tauter for evermore,
As when the British kept us in their grasp,
How much longer would this opposition last?

A rebellion looms ahead it clearly seems,
And dissention mounts and steadily teems,
Until the day comes when enough is enough,
Of peaceful talks and negotiations rebuffed.

When the Brits came, we were there and ready,
With arsenals stocked and muskets held steady.
We won our independence, hip, hip, hurray,
From seventeen seventy six ‘til this very day.
No more British rule, or anybody else’s rule,
Now friends that we are, together we grew.
