The Maiden Voyage

When outer space was just and inspiration,
A food for the poet’s heart and mind,
A river flowing through the parched desert,
An oasis of thought, creativity, and desire,
A story written in breathtaking prose,
A romance with the spirit of the unknown,
An abstract view of the skies and beyond,
Or a poetic narration shared by two lovers,
It was just a dream of all romantics.

But when dreams lose their charm
And curiosity becomes the new dream,
And astronomers become the new poets,
And the poets start to embrace reality,
And dreams go to the drawing board,
Manifestation becomes the
Evolution of that dream.

To the skies go the fearless astronauts,
The ones who fear
But let their curiosity overrun it,
Who saturate their fear with adrenalin,
The gamblers who pit life against death,
The ones who start to lose
Their trust in their vehicle,
The ones who see death’s open arms
Reaching out to them on their
Maiden Voyage to outer space,
And the ones who answer our
Questions about the materialization
Of our abstract dreams.

An ode to the astronauts,
The fearful ones, but yet the fearless.

I got inspired to write this poem from the movie I saw last night "The First Man."
