The Selfish Poet

The Selfish Poet

He told his loved one to sit alone
Without a word being spoken
Too wrapped up in himself to be concerned
His feelings are in his words alone

She lives in his heart,
But not at this moment
This moment to pour
Her love into a poem
A romantic poem,
But an isolated meditation
Words too elegant to
Pass through common lips

Forgive me, my love, for being so selfish
You are the source of how I feel
I can’t write this selfish poem without that
Seed that you planted in my heart
