Millennial Depression Blues Pts.1& 2

All the world is still
All is deep in silence
Birds gone for winter
Cops shooting innocence
Blood in the streets
The struggle relentless
I walk through the battered door
Walk across your empty floor
to meet you, ask for more
but, you don’t answer anymore
You take to Distance, soar
saying nothing, Poe’s “never more.”
I lay alone, broken, washed up on the shore
waking in the silence galore
silence at its core
There is no detour
This is love’s crash course

The world is screaming
All lost in translation
How can the individual see or choose
anything material without spiritual repression?
How can lettuce cost more than McDonald’s?
We call what the USA does progression
I spoke this once to a fellow I know
He said, “That’s a subject I don’t dare follow!”
I say, “But why?”
Is it that hard to swallow?
To see how broken, hollow are the shallows?
Dreaming of better days tomorrow
and living the past so our children can follow
blindly without question in the hollows
of manipulative mind-grooming swallows
called politicians, mothers, and fathers?
I stand confused, homeless, in Baltimore
Walking in sounds galore
There is no detour
It’s a USA crash course
